Here’s a breakdown of a typical 8-day trek:
Day 1: Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp

  • Elevation: 2,200m (7,200ft) to 2,750m (9,020ft)
  • Distance: 6km (4 miles)
  • Duration: 3-4 hours
  • Hike through lush rainforests and enjoy the chance to see wildlife.

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa to Shira 1 Camp

  • Elevation: 2,750m (9,020ft) to 3,500m (11,500ft)
  • Distance: 8km (5 miles)
  • Duration: 5-6 hours
  • Transition from rainforest to heathland.

Day 3: Shira 1 to Shira 2 Camp

Day 4: Shira 2 to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower

Day 7: Barafu to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

  • Summit at dawn and descend to Mweka Camp.

Day 8: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

  • Bring Binoculars for better sighting.
  • Bring appropriate clothes for Safari, Pants, Long sleeve shirts, Hats, Sunglasses, and Sun cream.
  • Don’t forget/bring Cameras to take pictures for memories.
  • A warm sweater and Jacket as the night can be chilly at high altitudes (Up to 5 C).
  • Blue and Black colors to avoid while in the park as they attract Tsetse fly.
  • Bring insect repellant/spray for use in the park.
  • The best time to visit is June and October, all parks visited all year round.
  • Visas are required when traveling to Tanzania, Foreigners may apply for a visa online in advance of travel.
  • A passport valid for a minimum of six months beyond visa insurance and/or date of entry.
  • Yellow fever vaccination is required for all travelers arriving from or having transited through countries where yellow fever is endemic.
