Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania

Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO)
A Safari Tours Africa representative will meet you and transfer you to your hotel. Amenities include Wi-Fi, swimming pool, hot showers, and friendly staff. In the evening, join a climb briefing with your guides for gear checks and itinerary review.

Day 2: Londorossi Gate → Mti Mkubwa Camp

Your Kilimanjaro adventure begins! Drive to Londorossi Gate for registration and continue through rainforest trails to reach Mti Mkubwa Camp.

📈 Elevation: 2,200m → 2,750m (7,200ft → 9,020ft)


Day 3: Mti Mkubwa → Shira 1 Camp

Today, you climb above the forest line and into the heath zone. Stunning views of the Shira Plateau open up as you progress.

📈 Elevation: 2,750m → 3,500m (9,020ft → 11,500ft)


Day 4: Shira 1 → Shira 2 Camp

Enjoy a shorter trek across the expansive Shira Plateau—ideal for acclimatization.

📈 Elevation: 3,500m → 3,850m (11,500ft → 12,600ft)


Day 5: Shira 2 → Lava Tower → Barranco Camp

A key acclimatization day following the “climb high, sleep low” strategy. Lunch at Lava Tower (4,630m), then descend to the scenic Barranco Camp.

📈 Elevation: 3,850m → 4,630m → 3,900m


Day 6: Barranco Camp → Karanga Camp

Climb the famous Barranco Wall with non-technical scrambling, then traverse ridges to reach Karanga Camp.

Day 7: Karanga Camp → Barafu Camp

A short but steady climb to Barafu, your final base camp. Spend the afternoon resting and hydrating for summit night.

Day 8: Summit Day – Uhuru Peak → Mweka Camp

Summit Push Begins Around Midnight
Climb to Uhuru Peak (5,895m / 19,341ft)—Africa’s highest point. After summit photos, descend to Barafu for rest, then continue to Mweka Camp.

🕒 Trekking Time: 12–15 hours
📈 Elevation: 4,640m → 5,895m → 3,095m

⚠️ Descent Safety Tip: Most altitude-related injuries occur on the way down. Use poles and go slowly.


Day 9: Mweka Camp → Mweka Gate

The final descent winds through beautiful rainforest. At the gate, receive your official summit certificate and enjoy a celebratory lunch.

Day 10: Departure

Relax at the hotel after breakfast. Depending on your flight, enjoy a leisurely morning before your airport transfer.

Travel Tips | Insights

  • Bring Binoculars for better sighting.
  • Bring appropriate clothes for Safari, Pants, Long sleeve shirts, Hats, Sunglasses, and Sun cream.
  • Don’t forget/bring Cameras to take pictures for memories.
  • A warm sweater and Jacket as the night can be chilly at high altitudes (Up to 5 C).
  • Blue and Black colors to avoid while in the park as they attract Tsetse fly.
  • Bring insect repellant/spray for use in the park.
  • The best time to visit is June and October, all parks visited all year round.
  • Visas are required when traveling to Tanzania, Foreigners may apply for a visa online in advance of travel.
  • A passport valid for a minimum of six months beyond visa insurance and/or date of entry.
  • Yellow fever vaccination is required for all travelers arriving from or having transited through countries where yellow fever is endemic.
