The 6-Day Lemosho Route is one of the most scenic and rewarding ways to summit Mount Kilimanjaro. Starting on the western side of the mountain, this route passes through diverse landscapes—from lush rainforest and vast heath to alpine desert and arctic summit terrain.

Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania

Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO)
Upon arrival, safari tours africa  representative will meet you and transfer you to your hotel. The hotel includes comfortable rooms, hot showers, Wi-Fi, a swimming pool, and attentive staff to ensure your comfort.

In the evening, you’ll attend a pre-climb briefing with our managers to go over the itinerary, perform gear checks, and answer any questions.

Private Transfers: Shared group airport transfers are included in private tour packages. Individual transfers can be arranged at an additional cost. To avoid extra charges, coordinate your group’s flight times.

Day 2: High-Altitude Drop-Off & Trek to Shira 2 Camp

Route: Londorossi Gate → High-Altitude Drop-Off → Shira 2 Camp
After breakfast, your guides and support crew will collect you from the hotel for a 3–4 hour drive to Londorossi Gate. After registering, you’ll continue off-road to the high-altitude drop-off point (3,414 m / 11,200 ft).

From here, a relatively gentle trek begins across the scenic Shira Plateau toward Shira 2 Camp.

💧 Important Acclimatization Tips:

  • Drink at least 4 liters of water daily.

  • Prevent altitude sickness with high-altitude medication (consult your doctor).

  • Report any headaches, nausea, or fatigue to your guide immediately.

Day 3: Shira 2 Camp → Lava Tower → Barranco Camp

This stage involves a “climb high, sleep low” strategy for acclimatization.

After breakfast, begin your ascent toward Lava Tower (4,630 m / 15,190 ft). The path includes some challenging terrain and elevation gains. You’ll stop here for lunch and rest to aid acclimatization.

Afterward, descend to Barranco Camp, located at the base of the imposing Barranco Wall.

Day 4: Barranco Camp → Karanga Camp

The day starts with a climb up the Barranco Wall—an exhilarating but non-technical ascent offering spectacular views.

From there, continue over rolling terrain with several ups and downs until reaching Karanga Camp. After lunch, you’ll take an acclimatization hike toward Barafu Camp and return.

🌄 Acclimatization Hike:

  • Elevation Gain: 300 m (984 ft)

  • Round-trip Distance: 2.5 km (1.5 miles)

  • Hiking Time: 1–2 hours

Day 5: Karanga Camp → Barafu Camp

Today’s short trek leads to Barafu Camp, the final base before the summit attempt.

After arriving, rest as much as possible, hydrate, and prepare for a midnight departure for the summit.

Day 6: Summit Day (Uhuru Peak) → Millennium Camp

Summit Ascent Begins Around Midnight

Climb from Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m / 19,340 ft) — the highest point in Africa! Every two climbers are accompanied by a personal guide for safety.

After summit photos and optional glacier exploration, descend to Barafu Camp for a short rest. Then, continue down to Millennium Camp for overnight.

⚠️ Descent Safety Tip: 90% of altitude-related injuries occur on descent. Take your time and watch your footing.

Day 7: Millennium Camp → Mweka Gate

Enjoy a relaxed morning in the rainforest climate of Millennium Camp. After breakfast, begin your final descent to Mweka Gate, where the team will gather for congratulations and present you with summit certificates.

Transfer back to your hotel for a well-earned rest.

Day 8: Departure

After breakfast, relax at the hotel until your transfer to the airport.

Travel Tips | Insights

  • Bring Binoculars for better sighting.
  • Bring appropriate clothes for Safari, Pants, Long sleeve shirts, Hats, Sunglasses, and Sun cream.
  • Don’t forget/bring Cameras to take pictures for memories.
  • A warm sweater and Jacket as the night can be chilly at high altitudes (Up to 5 C).
  • Blue and Black colors to avoid while in the park as they attract Tsetse fly.
  • Bring insect repellant/spray for use in the park.
  • The best time to visit is June and October, all parks visited all year round.
  • Visas are required when traveling to Tanzania, Foreigners may apply for a visa online in advance of travel.
  • A passport valid for a minimum of six months beyond visa insurance and/or date of entry.
  • Yellow fever vaccination is required for all travelers arriving from or having transited through countries where yellow fever is endemic.
